COVID-19 Update | Suspended Volunteer Shifts

As the situation surrounding COVID-19 evolves, Hillwood is taking proactive, reasoned actions. Your health and safety are a core priority of Hillwood. This update includes a number of additional proactive measures we’re taking to ensure that you can all manage your risk and that Hillwood can continue to serve our visitors effectively.

The museum will implement a partial closing to the public for two weeks starting Tuesday, March 16. This means all indoor public spaces will be closed to the public. All volunteers shifts will be suspended during the next two weeks from March 16-30. Public programs falling in this two week time period—to include horticulture workshops and talks, school and Scout visits, Natural Beauties lectures, Girl Scout Day, and Fabergé Egg Festival—will also be cancelled.

We will however, be open for staff, provide telecommuting options for eligible employees, and ensure all staff receive their pay. We need to continue to maintain our gardens and buildings, and relationships. We will also be open for our neighbors, members and community to enjoy the gardens as multiple health organizations have stated the benefits of being outdoors as a social distance option during this time.

Please note: Hillwood will be open to the public Saturday and Sunday, March 14 and 15. If you are scheduled for a volunteer shift this weekend and need to make any adjustments to your shift, please contact Lisa Leyh at lleyh@hillwoodmuseum.org.

The health and safety of the Hillwood community and the responsibility we have as engaged citizens remain our top priority, as we join the public effort to slow the spread and support our healthcare workers and those on the frontline. We are committed to supporting and paying our staff during this difficult time. Hillwood’s Management Team is meeting daily to assess the developing situation and continue to receive guidance from the CDC. We will evaluate our operating status by March 30 and continue to communicate with you often to keep you informed of any new developments.
