Mansion Display Update & Holiday Display Information

The holiday season at Hillwood is shaping up to be a vibrant and bustling time! We are thrilled to share that installation for the holiday display will begin next Monday, November 25. Included below are updates about mansion display changes and more information about the décor in the mansion and visitor center associated with Holidays at Hillwood | ‘Tis the Sea-son.

Mansion Display Updates
Hillwood staff is hard at work preparing for ‘Tis the Sea-son, holiday decorations inspired by the Fragile Beauty: Art of the Ocean exhibition. With dazzling Christmas trees and festive décor throughout the estate, there are a few updates happening in the mansion to accommodate the displays. An overview of these changes is provided below. More information, including lists of accession numbers for the objects being adjusted, is available in the Mansion Display Update document.

  • Thursday, November 21:
    The Madame Knip vase (24.181) will be installed in the pavilion hallway in a new pedestal-style case with a vitrine, positioned in front of the window.
  • Friday, November 22:
    • Selected objects in the pavilion, dining room, and entry hall will be moved or removed to make space for the holiday trees.
    • A selection of precious watches will be temporarily removed from the French drawing room for study. These will be reinstalled before the mansion reopens on Tuesday, November 26.

Holiday Display Information
Next Monday our Horticulture team is scheduled to begin the installation of the holiday décor, to be on view beginning Tuesday, November 26. Five beautiful holiday trees inspired by the exhibition Fragile Beauty: Art of the Ocean will be on display.
