As you may know, the CDC, The White House, and DC Health officials have recently updated the outdoor mask mandate for those who are fully vaccinated. Hillwood supports the science that prompted the change of the mask policy and acknowledges that the risk of outdoor transmission of COVID-19 is extremely low. Please read on for more details regarding Hillwood’s revised outdoor mask policy:
Revised Outdoor Mask Policy
Hillwood will not require fully vaccinated staff, volunteers, contractors, or visitors to wear a mask while outdoors. Staff may choose to wear a mask outdoors or while working outdoors with those who are not yet fully vaccinated. Staff and volunteers who have not been fully vaccinated should wear a mask while outdoors, working with others, and when working in crowded areas.
Please do your part to help keep staff and visitors safe by following the below guidelines when visiting Hillwood:
- Advance reservations are still required for an in-person visit, with limited capacity to the mansion.
- Tickets are available for purchase on Hillwood’s website along with a review of the temporary visitor guidelines.
- All staff, volunteers, visitors, and contractors are required to wear a mask indoors regardless of vaccination status. Indoor mask-wearing will be strictly enforced.
- Food and beverages can be enjoyed outside. Please note: Due to the indoor mask policy, eating and drinking are not permitted in the visitor center.
- Please continue to follow all social distancing guidelines.
On-site Volunteer Service
On-site volunteer roles, apart from a small pilot team of Horticulture volunteers, continue to remain on temporary suspension. A reduction in community spread and an increase in staff vaccinations remain some of the key measures for expanding capacity at Hillwood. With our current social distancing measures in place and staff in the early phases of receiving the vaccine, a timeline for volunteers returning to campus is still to be determined. We are hopeful volunteers will return to campus later this summer or fall.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will keep you abreast of any changes to our operational status. In the interim, Hillwood will also continue to offer our beloved volunteers safe engagement through online educational offerings and enhanced communications.
Like you, we are counting down the days until when we can resume normal volunteer operations. Until then, we deeply appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we navigate this time of transition.
