All volunteers are cordially invited to attend two mornings of garden-inspired talks hosted by the horticulture department. Both programs will be held in-person this year in the visitor center. Light refreshments will be served.

Hillwood’s volunteer birding group observed 86 species during its first year of observations in 2023. Join volunteer Sam Krause, birding enthusiast and photographer, as she highlights a sampling of those observations and shares other fun facts about birds.

11 a.m. | Reevaluating Weeds

Join Matt Boyle, gardener, and learn how looking at volunteer vegetation through an ecological lens can help gardeners save time and energy while also helping the environment.

11:30 a.m. | Flowering Cherries in Japan

Discover some of the oldest cherry trees in Japan and the ancient methods used to preserve them in this presentation by Michael Rollinson, garden section manager.

12 p.m. | Planting for Seasonal Interest using Native Plants
