Day of Horticulture

10:00 a.m. | Replacements for Invasives, presented by Marshall Paquin
People have chosen invasive plants as ideal ornamentals because they add some unique aesthetic qualities to gardens such as fall leaf color, showy flowers, and interesting leaf textures, but we can do better by choosing native plants that can showcase an even more vivid display of the same qualities when we meet their environmental requirements. Let’s discuss some of these native plant choices, present and possibly future, at Hillwood and how we can give these native alternatives the best chance to flourish.
11:15 a.m. | Create Beauty with Tulips, presented by Ami Wilber
Be inspired and look forward to spring with an in-person floral tutorial. Utilizing tulips from your own backyard, a local flower farm, or from Trader Joe’s, you will learn how to create a simple, tulip-focused floral design complete with step-by-step instructions provided by Ami.
11:45 a.m. | Hungry at Hillwood?, presented by May Aldana
Are you looking for a little midday snack? Perhaps something to flavor up your evening dinner? Or how about a cozy cup of tea on a cold winter day? Romaine calm! We will share a few edible plants that can be found around campus, here at Hillwood.
