We are excited to share that the Horticulture department will soon begin a project to enhance Hillwood\u2019s compost facility, located along the south access road.<\/p>\n\n

About the Project<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The goal is to produce higher-quality compost \u2013 and potentially increase the volume we compost \u2013 by improving drainage, installing large bins for easier material handling, and incorporating an aeration system to speed up decomposition. These upgrades will also help raise internal temperatures in the compost piles, effectively killing weed seeds and plant diseases.<\/p>\n\n

This improvement aligns with Hillwood\u2019s ongoing sustainability efforts and reinforces our commitment to environmental stewardship \u2013 benefiting the gardens, our community, and the broader environment.<\/p>\n\n

Timeline & Road Closure<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The south access road (along the property perimeter, behind the Administration building) will be closed<\/u><\/strong> starting Thursday, June 26. This project is expected to take approximately 4-5 weeks to complete. The south access road is most likely to reopen at the end of July or early August. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n

Parking Instructions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Staff and volunteers who typically park on the south access road should park along the lower gate drive instead. Please enter campus through the upper gate, turn left at the crossroads, and proceed with caution down the lower gate drive.
